MAY 26

On Wednesday, May 6, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the MLAC – Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea will host the presentation of the results of the PRIN 2022 PNRR project PRIN 2022 PNRR Straniere: the reception of non-European arts and cultures in Italy (1945–2000), conducted by the Università per Stranieri di Siena in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Parma and the Università degli Studi di Udine, with funding from the Italian Ministry of University and Research and the European Union (NextGenerationEU).

The project investigated the multiple forms of reception of non-European arts and cultures in Italy throughout the twentieth century, through the analysis of archival collections belonging to historians, dealers, collectors, photographers/artists, designers, and architects. In addition to conferences, exhibitions, and publications, one of the main outcomes of the research is the Straniere Digital Archive, an open-access platform developed with the consultancy of the CNR ISTI and the Artificial Intelligence for Media and Humanities Lab (AIMH), designed to be interoperable with national and European cultural heritage digital ecosystems (I.PaC ed ECCCH).

The event will provide an opportunity to discuss the methodologies adopted and to reflect on the project’s contribution to the renewal of disciplinary tools in Italian art history, moving toward an intercultural and postcolonial approach.

Speaker: Caterina Toschi (Università per Stranieri di Siena)

Introduction and moderation: Francesca Gallo (Director of MLAC)
