The first series of Senzacornice, active from 2011 to 2023, saw twenty-eight monographic issues, each focused on a relevant topic to history and criticism of contemporary art.
With the aim of rethinking the magazine-instrument that could follow the new research perspective opened by the Research and Education Lab for Contemporary Art, in 2024 was born the project for a new series of digital magazine: Senzacornice Journal. Studies on the Contemporary Art System.
Consisting of monographic issues published annually, Senzacornice Journal aims to publish original and unpublished scholarly contributions relating to the contemporary art system: the history of exhibitions, collecting and the market, art criticism, publishing and exo-publishing, the history of archives and places of production, dissemination, and reception of art research.
Each issue can be committed to external editors, who are responsible for managing the evaluation and selection process, as well as making use of a call for papers to attract proposals on the basis of a topic previously identified by the Scientific Board. Proposals are also welcomed – sent to the Editorial Board independently as long as they align with the journal’s research focus – and that, following evaluation, are planned to be published in the section “Fuoritema” or in a miscellaneous issue.
Since the first issue Senzacornice Journal collaborates with artists, who produce a new work/cover inspired by the issue topic, so as to create a dialogue between critical thinking and contemporary artistic production.
Each issue consists of a maximum of ten unpublished contributions (in Italian, English or French), and each article may be accompanied by a gallery of images (static or dynamic), audio and video contents.
Since its foundation, Senzacornice Journal is partner of Archivissima, the Festival aimed at promoting to general audience by mixing various languages and media the heritage and stories held in historical archives.
