On Friday, November 14, in the Cripta Aula Magna of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, the annual conference organized by CUNSTA – Consulta Universitaria per la Storia dell’Arte – will take place, focusing on Esotico. L’alterità nelle arti visive, dal Medioevo alla contemporaneità (Exotic. Otherness in the Visual Arts from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Era). The event offers a reflection on how the notion of the “exotic” has shaped gazes, representations, and power structures within Western culture, from historical art to contemporary practices. Among the presentations is Etnografia e storia dell’arte: il dialogo tra Ernesto de Martino e Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti nel secondo dopoguerra (Ethnography and Art History: The Dialogue between Ernesto de Martino and Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti in the Postwar Period) by Caterina Toschi.
